There Is No Such Thing As A Free Downloading

In 2000, free phonogram download site ‘Soribada’ began to emerge.  With allowing people to share music freely, it gained popularity among netizen; however, it continuously suffered from copyright issue and after all, the court ruled in 2003 that Soribada must stop its service. Nevertheless, it seems that there continues to download music off the Internet in inappropriate ways. Now, I believe that we should pay proper cost for the copyright, if we truly concern both music industry and ourselves.

First of all, I feel concern about our morality because downloading music off the Internet without permission is same as stealing. If you want to have or borrow someone’s stuff, you should ask him first. Only if the owner allows you to do so, you can have it. It is the basic manner in the human relationship. In the downloading case, it is the same. If you want to have someone’s song, you should ask him first. It can be represented by paying certain cost. Unless you do, you commit a theft.

Second, I feel concern about serious damages to music industry. Musicians and producers are also human beings who need money to live on. Also, they need money to make next works. If they get paid enough to keep working on, they may give up their profession. Consequently, it hinders music industry’s development.

Some people say that they can hardly find songs worth paying for. They ask musicians and producers to make songs which deserve to be paid first. I understand this criticism in some degree. Indeed, there are lots of problems in music industry such as teenage idol-centered music, fake chart, and plagiarism scandal. However, how can we determine whether the music worth paying for or not? How can we say that it is okay to download freely because it is not worth? I think it is so arbitrary and arrogant comment. We have a responsibility to respect their copyright even though we are not happy to do it.

It is human nature to want to share good things with others. But if you share the good things without paying appropriate cost, someday they will disappear and you cannot enjoy them. There is no such thing as a free downloading. You end up paying for it anyway. For the better music industry and the better ourselves, I think that we should pay for downloading music off the Internet.

  1. Very clear thought and strongly made your point. Easy to understand and well-organized.

I would say... your third paragraph which is your second body paragraph can be.... longer! with more details or supporting ideas.

And also I found some sentences confusing me a little bit.

(1)If they get paid enough to keep working on, they may give up their profession.
-> I guess... if they couldn't be paid enough to keep working on making music(or whatever), they might give up their profession.

(2)How can we say that it is okay to download freely because it is not worth?
-> I'm not so sure but... isn't it...worthy? for the last sentence? worth+~ing seems very familiar usage, so withought something with ~ing it's a little bit awkward! So it could be...
because it is not worthy? or it isn't worth paying money.

Good job, keep working ~ ^^

  2. Actually, when i read your writing, I really astonished because your idea is nearly the same with mine....ㅠ.ㅜ

Your main idea is that downliading free music is not acceptable, therefore we should all pay for what we want to get.

What I liked about your writing is...

    1. The introduction was great. You started with the famous social issue, Soribada, and I think this made a raelly natural and fluent start.
    2. Your word that you chose when starting each paragraph was new and fresh- concern. It is not a normal word to select when we write an essay.

What I suggest you to make a better essay is...
that I think that 'There is no such thing as a free downloading. You end up paying for it anyway.' is not so clear. I think this sentence came up suddenly so, although this is such a powerful line, I got surprised and confused to figure out what this sentence means.
