We all know that downloading and sharing music off the Internet, but the temptation to download music or movies is too strong to ignore for me. There is a 'Good Downloader' campaign and actor Ahn Seong-gi and Park Joong-hoon became co-chairman of 'Good Downloader' campaign committee. They teamed up with Korea's popular actors and actresses who promote the campaign against illegal download. I saw some of their CF and I thought to myself that I should become a good downloader from now on. However, I still cannot change my habit because the chances to get free music file is everywhere and so easy. Sincerely, I understand that become a good downloader is the way that it is right. Let's think about this. If you found 1,000 won in the street, what would you do? I'm pretty much sure that most of us will take that money without hesitation. For me, it is same thing with downloading music. I can find free music online really easily, but should I pay for the song still? Buy music online costs about less than 1,000 won. Many of us already know well that downloading free music online is another way of stealing someone else's property, effort, even money. But I cannot move myself to buy the same song when I can listen to the same song for free. So, the point I want to make clear is that until there is no such place which I can download music for free, I will be a good downloader. Problem is that there are tons of sites to share music free and police cannot detect every user who downloaded or shared music for free. This problem cannot be solved because nobody can control the Internet thoroughly. Then, what should we do to make everyone to be good downloaders? What should happen to people who pirate music? I don't think we cannot jail every person who pirated music just like Yoshiro Inoue who was the first to be charged with a crime for downloading music. So there is just only one way left to solve or at least reduce the problem which is to appeal people to be a good downloader. There will be so many of websites to share music for free and we cannot make all them to shut down at once and block other websites to be made. Because we cannot change our Internet environment, we should focus on change people's mind instead.
I'm not so sure about this topic at all and because I'm not a good downloader either, I cannot think of proper way to write this essay. Hope somebody can tell me how to rewrite this!

ReplyDeletewell, I can feel your difficulty between ideal and reality if you mean it.
Your main point seems that you understand good downloader is a right way but there are so many websites to get music for free. So,we need to focus on changing people's mind rather than blocking free download sites.
I was interested in your bodyparagraph, especially from let's think about this. I think this generalization is good method to get reader's sympathy with your point of view.
But truth be told, I am little confused of your position. Do you for or against free downloading? It seems you are in somewhere between them. For the clear argumentative essay, we should determine your position before.Then, if you are really for good downloader, you can give couple of reasons to readers to make them understand your standpoint. In this case, you may use the reality(such as there are so many websites to get music for free, it is hard to ignore)as a counter-argument.

I can see how much you hesitated. However, I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't find any topic sentence from your essay. We were supposed to argue and debate whether downloading for free is okay or not, but all I can see is the current situation in Korea.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if I can say the good part from your writing, I would say that it is your metaphor. Picking up 1,000 won was the example everyone can feel the same way, Most of them. However, I wish it would be better if you explained us what a 'good downloader' is since you mentioned it pretty long in the introduction.
I liked your writing because I could feel the same way as you did. I'm not a good downloader either^^ but I just took a side to write a logical essay. I hope you do when you write 2nd draft!

We all know that downloading and sharing music off the Internet is not right thing to do, but the temptation to download music or movies is too strong to ignore. Let's think about this. If you found 1,000 won in the street, what would you do? I'm pretty much sure that most of us will take that money without hesitation. For me, it was same thing with downloading music because I could find free music online really easily like picking money up on streets. Buying music costs about less than 1,000 won online. Many of us already know well that downloading free music online is another way of stealing someone else's property, effort, even money. But this knowledge is not enough to make ourselves be a good downloader. So I’m going to introduce to you how beneficial and important to be a good downloader.
We cannot ban internet sites offering free music or movies because nobody can control the Internet thoroughly. That’s why I’m seriously thinking that we should more focus on benefits to be a good downloader. Firstly, if you pay for downloading music or movies, you could become a supporter, not a pirate. It is really important because our music and movie industries need supporters to make more songs and movies for our entertainment. You might think that your support is not huge enough to make our music and movie industry run efficiently, but it is not. If a person pays for a song 1,000 won, Korean population is about 40 million, so it sums up to 40 billion. I don’t think you could say that it is a small amount of money.
Second, authorized music is always better than the free one in terms of quality. You bought from the authorized sites like bugs, m-net, or melon, then you will have the original song. What the most beneficial to have an original song is that it has a right name, right album pictures, and even it might have lyrics with it. You can enjoy your music or movie with a perfect condition and quality to preserve. Also I believe that if you bought the original music, your enjoyment may be very different when you enjoy your free downloaded music. When I was a kid, I saved money to buy music tapes to listen it with my walkman. I saved and saved money and waited until my favorite music released. When I got my music tapes finally, I found myself so lightened up and happy. Nowadays, I lost my delight of doing so because it is so much easier to buy music. But I suggest at least buying music because it will bring a satisfying result.
Life is getting easier with high technology and people are getting more connected through the fast progressing of internet services. Nobody can control every single internet sites and users, but even though we are living in this kind of time era, we should act right. Even though you can download music or movies for free online, you should control yourself at least because you already know that it is not right thing to do. I introduced briefly about two benefits to be a good downloader. If single individual change their mind not to pirate things online and have more proper mindset that those are from someone else’s property, our society will be a better place to have prosperous industries.
