201003252 Unit 6 Two Photos

     (201003252) Unit 6

Before and After Photo of Camera, Lights, and Action!

Depending on a situation people can easily be in a comfortable or anxious state of mind. A persons expressions are quite easily read in photos, whether they are feeling happy, sad, or even nervous. Here are two photographs taken in Cyber Hufs Media Center. The photos are taken of the leading actor and actress, they are playing roles of interracial dating and the drama and episodes that follow when being in a relationship. Both photographs are taken in the Cyber Hufs Media Center but the body language and the overall mood of the photos are quite different considering before and after the camera is rolling.

In the first photo on the top, you can see the two frontal shot of the two faces which makes the features of the individual faces noticeable. The girl in the photo is facing the camera while smiling. If you look closely at her shoulders and arms, she seems a bit tense. Both arms are on her side with her fingers tips slightly arched up. Her feet are close together, and she is wearing high-heels. If you look closely, she is standing on top of a wooden square box which looks to be about four to five centimeters tall. This explains why her body is so stiff, she may just be trying to keep her balance on the wooden block. However, looking at her smile you can easily assume she is relaxed and having a good time.

In the same photo the man is also facing the camera and with his mouth slightly in an O shape, smiling. You can tell that he is a bit more comfortable than the woman by looking at his poise. The man has his left leg tucked slightly back and placed on the foot stool while his right leg is placed comfortably on the carpet. His torso is slightly hunched over and his left shoulder is a bit lifted and his left elbow is bent outward while his fist is curled on his hip. Although you may not be able to tell from just the photo alone, the picture was taken a minute before the camera running, so the actor and actress are at ease and a playful and childish side of them are captured on the photo because the camera isn't rolling just yet.

Unlike the first photo, both the actor and actress are facing away from the camera and looking at each other. The woman has her hands placed on her sides and a lot of tension on her shoulders to keep her balance on the wooden block. She is looking at the male actor in a disturbed expression. Since she is facing the actor only half of her face is seen on the picture. Even though her face is not entirely visible, it is not hard to figure out the feeling the woman has toward the man. Looking at her arched right brow, it is evident that she is angry with the man.

If the first photo showed a sense of comfort from the male actress, the mood of the second photo is completely different. The man is also facing the woman and the photo was taken of his left profile. In contrast to the first photo where he is smiling with his mouth slightly opened, he has his upper and lower lips glued together. He has his head slightly bent forward while his eyes are engaging on the woman. The actor's shoulder is placed down with tension as if he is scared and in trouble. His feet are no longer relaxed on the floor. Both legs tucked back on the foot stool. Lastly, both hands are placed on his lap while he holds a Korean rice wine on his lap.

Two photos show a completely different mood. In one we can see the contentment and emotions portrayed liberally. The other shows tension and seriousness of the actor and actress as they are filming. The two photographs shows the differences in emotion when people are at leisure and at work. By oberserving the two photos we can feel the drama and tensity of mood change before and after the camera is filming.

  1. dear..^^

most people become nervous in front of the camera. I think focusing on people's face and posture is an interesting work.

Your main point seems to be mood's differences between before the camera and after the camera. If I saw those pictures, I could understand your point.

I like the sentence that he has his upper and lower lips glued together. It is funny and visual expression. I can imagine his face with your sentence.

Something are not clear to me or comments for improvement:
First, you mentioned "before and after the camera," but actually it is not after the camera. isn't it? I don't wanna be picky but it seems that it is in front of the camera.
Second, in 4th paragraph, when you started to explain second photographs, "unlike the first photograph, both the actor and actress are ..." It was little sudden to me. Well, because your essay consists of six paragraphs, I cannot expect how it goes. How about start your first sentence like this; In the second photograph, unlike the first one,~~

Thank you for reading my comment.
